In 2008, Georgia's 46 state-certified domestic violence shelters:

  • answered 76,078 crisis calls,

  • provided safe housing for 7,762 victims and their children, amounting to 226,465 bed nights, and

  • served 63,433 non-residential victims.

Due to recent funding cuts, Georgia's domestic violence shelters are being negatively impacted.

  • state funding to domestic violence shelter was cut by 18%

  • each domestic violence shelter in Georgia currently receives only $88,253 in state funding each year.

  • In 2008, domestic violence shelters were forced to turn away 3,315 victims and their children due to lack of available space.
