Volunteer

Become an advocate for domestic violence survivors and their children. Harmony House recognizes the contribution that volunteers make to the success of our agency. With the assistance of dedicated volunteers, we are able to continue our mission — to provide shelter, crisis intervention, education, and advocacy for adults and children who are victims of domestic violence. We are committed to provide accessible, safe temporary shelter, to help our residents regain control of their lives by providing appropriate support and services, and to build awareness to break the cycle of domestic violence in our community. At Harmony House there are a variety of ways you can volunteer. Some volunteer opportunities include:

• Crisis Line Volunteer/Shelter Advocate – Assists shelter staff in the operation of facility and crisis line.
• Legal Advocate Volunteer – Works with legal service staff assisting residents navigating the legal system.
• Childcare Advocate Volunteer – Supervise children in shelter or the children of women participating in community support groups.
• Facilities Assistant – Provide general assistance to the shelter staff.
• Special Event Volunteer – Provide assistance with the planning and execution of special events.
• Support Group Facilitator – Help guide the process and ensure the physical and emotional safety of all group members during the group meeting.

All Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

Training and Involvement

For all volunteer positions, an orientation/general training session is required. A three-hour training session is offered quarterly. Prior to submitting anapplication, individuals must participate in a volunteer assessment over the phone. Please call the Volunteer Director today at 706.885.1526 to begin the process. Applications will not be considered without a telephone assessment.

Step 1 Call the Volunteer Director at 706.885.1526 for a quick telephone interview. If you are calling after normal business hours, the Volunteer Director will return your call when the office re-opens.

Step 2 Complete volunteer paperwork packet which you receive after the telephone assessment. The packet includes: • Volunteer Application • Applicant Agreement • Background Information Return the completed forms with your completed criminal background check to: P.O. Box 2925, LaGrange, GA 30241 or fax your information to 706-882-4175.

Step 3 Attend Harmony House’s quarterly Volunteer Advocate Training. The Volunteer Director will inform you of the time, date and location of your training upon completion of your paperwork.
