ABOUT HARMONY HOUSE
We Care About the Safety and Well-being of Domestic Violence Victims
Harmony House is a State of Georgia certified shelter that serves victims of domestic violence twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week by providing emergency shelter, crisis intervention, and advocacy for victims of domestic violence.
OUR HISTORY
During 2004, approximately 1000 calls were placed to local law enforcement regarding domestic violence in Troup County. The need for a shelter for those affected by domestic violence became increasingly apparent. Without an appropriate shelter, these victims and their children were without a safe housing alternative. A task force, comprised of members from the judicial system, local law enforcement, and social services agencies, was formed. From their guidance, an initial Board of Directors representing the diversity of the LaGrange community was formed. Under this direction, an aggressive development campaign began to fund Harmony House. Support was given by the Callaway Foundation, the United Way of West Georgia, and Charter Bank. Additional financial support came from local churches, businesses, and individuals.
In February 2005, Harmony House was awarded its 501(c)3 non-profit status. The shelter opened after much hard work on October 3, 2005. Harmony House received its full certification from the Department of Human Services Domestic Violence Unit in the fall of 2008.
